What Is Web 0.0, Web 1.0 Vs. Web 2.0 Vs. Web 3.0
It’s important to understand that when discussing the different versions of the web, we aren’t talking about technological advancements but how the web is used.
Web 0.0 was the birth of the World Wide Web. It began as ARPANET, a research network funded by the US military’s Advanced Research Projects Agency.
Web 1.0 of the ‘90’s can be thought of as the first draft of the World Wide Web. As explained in the HubSpot SEO Course, the earliest form of the internet was just a bunch of web pages attached by hyperlinks. Web 1.0 was known as the “read-only” web because it was not interactive and only allowed users to search for information and read it.
Web 2.0 began at the turn of the 21st century and can be considered the second draft of the web, where users can then read and write. It is essentially the web that we are experiencing now. Where users can engage with content, make user-generated content, and have easier usability.
Web 3.0 is currently being created with the vision of a decentralized web with greater usability and control over our data. This will be done with machine learning, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology.
How Should Companies Leverage Web 3.0 Five Years From Now?
Companies should be using web 3.0 in the future to:
- Be transparent
- Collect more accurate data
- Have interoperability
With web 3.0 comes blockchain which is a digital ledger that is accessible across the entire network of computer systems on the blockchain. Companies can utilize this to be transparent with their consumers about their financial footprint. This will increase loyalty and growth.
Web 3.0 decentralized infrastructure will also enable users to have more control over their data and personal information. It will be the job of companies to incentivize users to share their data. This will help inform greater machine learning as the data being collected will be collected directly from consumers.
A decentralized network will also make it easier for users to connect their applications across different devices on the same network. Imagine a consumer entering their wish lists on your site and being able to access those products on any device! This will significantly help digital marketers to create a frictionless user experience. So, if AI and machine learning are going to launch us into web 3.0, what exactly are they?
What Is Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning & Current Applications?
Artificial Intelligence refers to technology that can mimic human interactions and intelligence. Essentially it is technology that can behave like humans. It is used by marketers to interact with consumers and lead to a conversion or better customer relationship management (CRM).
A subcategory of AI is machine learning, which is when computers systems can automatically learn from new data and create predictions without human interference.
There are two types of machine learning, “learning with a teacher” and “learning without a teacher”. According to OWOX, an analytical company, learning with a teacher is when a human supplies the computer system with Initial data in the form of situation-solutions pairs. It is then analyzed by the machine learning system to learn how to classify situations based on known solutions.
Learning without a teacher is when the machine receives unsorted information (situations) without solutions and learns to classify those situations based on similar or different signs without human guidance.
AI and machine learning are used by digital marketers to predict the behavior of their consumers for a variety of reasons including to ensure a smoother interface, automate campaigns, programmatic ads, and email marketing.
Google Analytics 4 also uses machine learning to predict the behaviors of consumers which will be extremely beneficial with new privacy laws limiting web the use of cookies take action.
The Future of AI & Machine Learning
The future of AI and machine learning is personalization. Together they will be utilized by digital marketers to serve tailored content to each consumer.
In my head that looks like technology that can empathize with the human controlling it. From guessing our next search to writing our blog post! Subscribe to ReDrew Innovations to see how I plan on innovating marketing!
